The high school football season is getting ramped up, and teams around the West Alabama area are looking to separate themselves from the rest of their competitors.

Some teams will be playing their third game of the season, some only their second, but we're getting started in region play across the state, and there are plenty of good rivalries to keep an eye on this week.

Don't miss out on any of the action by checking out all our West Alabama high school coverage here on tide991.com.

Demopolis @ Calera

The Tigers of Demopolis travel to Calera to partake in a top 5 match-up in 5A, not to mention a game that could decide who the best team is in Region 4. The Eagles of Calera are led by stud athlete Kyle Harrel, who has committed to play for the Army Black Knights next season after graduating high school. Demopolis running back Jayjerien Craig is a load to try to bring down. Standing at 5'11" and 223 lbs., Craig will be an integral part if the Tigers want to come out of this game with a win.

Clay-Chalkville @ Hillcrest

Probably the biggest game in the state of Alabama this week, the fifth ranked 6A Patriots of Hillcrest play host to the second ranked Cougars of Clay-Chalkville in a huge Region 4 match-up. Hillcrest is coming off a lopsided victory over 7A power Oak Mountain, 31-0, and are looking to continue that momentum going into region play. Clay-Chalkville will be looking to make their case as the best team in the state, regardless of classification, as they are 2-0 and coming off a 49-15 victory over the Minor Tigers.

Pickens County @ Thorsby

The 2A Tornadoes of Pickens County defeated the 3A Greensboro Raiders last week, 24-22, and are looking for their first win in region play when they travel to the home of the Thorsby Rebels Friday night.

Pickens County is looking to stay in the top 10 in 2A, while the Rebels will look to bounce back from their loss to Verbena last week by a score of 27-8.
