Alabama senior linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The conference award is the first of Hamilton’s career.

The senior finished with a team-high eight tackles, including a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack as the Tide limited the Florida State offense to just 40 yards on the ground last Saturday. The defense forced the ‘Noles into six possessions of three plays or less and held FSU to just 123 yards of total offense in their final 11 possessions of the game.

Hamilton led an Alabama defense that limited then-No. 3 Florida State to 250 yards of total offense in the top-ranked Tide’s 24-7 win. The Seminoles’ lone touchdown marked the 16th time in the last 31 games that the Crimson Tide limited an opponent to 10 points or less.
