Alabama softball rolled through Arizona and took all five games in the Hillenbrand Invitational to improve to 10-0 on the season.

The Crimson Tide opened the weekend with a 2-0 shutout of South Florida and a 1-0 win over New Mexico on Friday. They followed it up with a 7-2 victory over Cal State Fullerton and a 6-1 triumph over Arizona. Before heading back home, the Tide trounced Illinois-Chicago 13-4 in five innings.

Montana Fouts Dominates from the Circle

Before joining the Crimson Tide, Montana Fouts came in with a reputation as one of the top high school pitchers in America.

This weekend, the Grayson, Kentucky, native showed the Hillenbrand Invitational field that she has the potential to excel in big time college softball.

Fouts pitched complete games in the shoutout of South Florida and 6-1 over Arizona. In her 14 innings, she gave up just one unearned run on nine hits while fanning 20 batters and did not issue a walk.

For the season, the true freshman right hander has yet to issue a walk in 27 innings pitched.

Bailey Hemphill Rebounds vs. Illinois-Chicago

Just as the Alabama offense improved in the final three games of the weekend, Bailey Hemphill ended the Hillenbrand Invitational with monster numbers against UIC.

The junior slugger went 1-12 with three walks in her first four games in Arizona but rebounded Sunday with one of her best outings of the season. Against the Flames, Hemphill was 3-3 with two round trippers and five RBIs.

The Lafayette, Louisiana, native opened the scoring with a two-run single in the first. In the second inning, she hit the first of her two home runs with a two-run blast to left center followed by a solo shot to center in the third.

College Softball around Alabama

Auburn opened the 2019 home schedule by going 4-1 in the Plainsman Invitational. The Tigers easily defeated UAB twice and picked up wins over Drake and Furman but fell to Texas Tech. In their victory over Drake, senior Mikayla Martin struck out eight and walked one in a complete game shutout.

Samford rebounded from a 1-6 start to the season to take three of four games in the Samford Classic. The Bulldogs blanked two-time defending Big East champion DePaul 6-0 Friday evening. Senior Madison Couch homered twice in the victory.

Troy finished 4-1 in the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic with wins over Stetson, UMass, LIU-Brooklyn and an extra-innings defeat of St. Joseph's. The only blemish came in a 6-0 loss to Missouri.

After dropping three of their four games to open the season in Gulf Shores, South Alabama went 3-1 in their home opening Jaguar Challenge. The Jaguars beat Mercer, Lipscomb and North Dakota but lost to Tulsa.

Jacksonville State, North Alabama and Alabama State played in Alabama State's Black and Gold Tournament. After winning their first five games as a Division I member, UNA lost two of three games including a 2-1 decision in eight innings to Jacksonville State. Alabama State also dropped two of three games while Jacksonville State took three of four games in Montgomery.
