The Alabama Crimson Tide finished the 2016 recruiting season with the top ranked class according to Rivals.com, Scout.com and 247 Sports.

Alabama signed 25 players in the 2016 recruiting class, but only seven players come from the state of Alabama.

Similar to the overall student population at the University of Alabama, the football team is seeing an increasing number of players come from out of state. On the 2015 roster, 41 players called the state of Alabama home.

Al.com’s Matt Scalici pointed out that Alabama’s recruiting focus has shifted out of state.

“I would say we’ve seen this trend developing for really a while now. It would of happened whether Nick Saban was the coach at Alabama or not.” Scalici also noted how the talent pool is increasing nationally, “The pool that you can reasonably recruit from and still do a good job of identifying talent has moved into more of a national territory.”
