Alabama Adds Former Maryland Interim Head Coach Mike Locksley to Staff
The Alabama football team will add another former head coach to its staff with Mike Locksley accepting an offensive analyst, according to a report.
Most recently, Locksley had been the offensive coordinator with Maryland before being elevated to interim head coach following the mid-season dismissal of Randy Edsall last fall. Prior to working with the Terrapins, Locksley was the head coach at New Mexico from 2009-11.
In December, Maryland hired D.J. Durkin as its new head coach and he brought in Walt Bell from Arkansas State to run his offense. The Washington Post reports that Locksley was offered an unspecified position, but he didn't accept it.
Despite his 3-31 record in a head coaching position, Locksley is a strong recruiter with deep ties to the mid-Atlantic region. Although he won't be able to travel, the 46-year-old will strengthen Alabama's ties in the Maryland and D.C. areas.
