The Alabama baseball team seems to be hitting its stride during the heart of the season. After handing the Missouri Tigers a 2-1 series loss in Columbia to rise in the SEC standings, the Crimson Tide will host the UAB Blazers on Tuesday.

Alabama started the year with an ugly 1-5 record in conference play, but now sit at a respectable 5-7 after winning four of their last six conference games. The Crimson Tide will hope to carry their recent winning ways into non-conference play, as the UAB Blazers come to town for the second part of a home-and-home series. The two teams previously faced off on March 20 in Birmingham, with the Blazers winning a close 6-4 contest.

Again, a major key for the Tide will be the pitching staff and their ability to stifle UAB's hitters. In the previous matchup, Alabama allowed five runs in the first two innings, which proved to be too much to overcome late. Keeping the game close until the bullpen can close the door on the opposing team is crucial, especially since the Tide's early season offensive outburst has since simmered. At this point in the season, Alabama only has two qualified players batting over .300, Chandler Avant and Cobie Vance. Also of note, Avant and Vance are the only two players to start all 33 games this season for Alabama.

For UAB, offense has not been a strong suit lately either. Over the last ten games, the Blazers have scored more than four runs on only one occasion (granted it was an 18-10 blowout win). On the mound, Tanner Graham has impressed the most with a 2.08 ERA, despite his 2-3 record. That reflects a lack of run support, as over his last four starts the Blazers haven't managed to plate more than three runs while he was on the bump. However, the Crimson Tide shouldn't have to worry about facing Graham on only three days of rest.

The Alabama Crimson Tide will face off against the UAB Blazers at Thomas-Sewell Stadium in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday, with first pitch currently scheduled for 6 p.m.
