Alabama men's basketball picked up a key transfer on Sunday when Ohio State center Daniel Giddens announced his decision to head south.

The Georgia native played one season for the Buckeyes, appearing in 33 of 35 games and making seven starts as a true freshman. He shared the news through his Twitter account.

Giddens made a couple visits to Tuscaloosa after asking for his release from Ohio State in March. According to Cleveland.com, the former top-50 high school recruit wanted to be closer to his hometown of Mableton, Georgia.

The addition of the 6-foot-10, 235-pound center will add depth to Avery Johnson's front line, but he'll have to sit out one season. Due to NCAA transfer guidelines, Giddens will be eligible to compete for Alabama in the 2017-18 season.

Johnson told Tide 99.1 earlier this month that he hopes to bring in 2-3 more players before the fall so fans can likely expect more news this summer.
