The Alabama coaching staff has spent a lot of time early in fall camp working to find the right combination of players in the secondary. One of those cornerbacks in that group is redshirt sophomore Marlon Humphrey, who started every game in 2015.

The Hoover native talked to reporters after practice on Wednesday and updated fall camp through seven days.

"First week of camp, tough as usual," Humphrey said. "But definitely I'm learning a lot more."

Head coach Nick Saban said in a recent press conference that he's trying to work with different players in different formations to find the right mix for his defense. Humphrey said the unit is working every day to improve.

"The secondary is coming along well," Humphrey said. "We're just learning new things. The offense has been throwing some things at us that we haven't really been seeing too much."

The secondary will be tested quickly this season. Alabama faces USC on September 3 and the Trojans feature one of the nation's top wide receivers in Ju Ju Smith-Schuster. The junior pulled in 89 receptions for nearly 1,500 yards a year ago and will be a major weapon in the offense again this year.
