Alabama senior Jonathan Allen was named the FWAA/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance last Saturday in the Crimson Tide’s 33-14 win over then-No. 6 Texas A&M. The award is presented weekly during the college football season by the Football Writers Association of America.

A disruptive force against the Aggies on Saturday, Allen finished the matchup against Texas A&M with one sack for a loss of eight yards, along with a career-high four quarterback hurries. He totaled six tackles on the day, three of which were solo stops, and added his second defensive score of the season. Allen picked up an Aggie fumble and returned it 30 yards for a score late in the third quarter to put the Tide in front by two scores. His play helped limit the Aggies’ top-ranked rushing attack to just 114 yards and the entire offense to only 278 yards and 14 points.

On the season, Allen has totaled a team-high 10 quarterback hurries while ranking second in sacks with 6.0 (-53 yards).
