Alabama senior Jonathan Allen was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance last Saturday in the Crimson Tide’s 33-14 win over then-No. 6 Texas A&M, the league office announced.

A disruptive force all afternoon, Allen finished the matchup against the Aggies with one sack for a loss of eight yards, along with a career-high four quarterback hurries. He totaled six tackles on the day, three of which were solo stops, and added his second defensive score of the season. Allen picked up an Aggie fumble and returned it 30 yards for a score late in the third quarter to put the Tide in front by two scores.

His play helped limit the Aggies’ top-ranked rushing attack to just 114 yards and the entire offense to only 278 yards and 14 points by game’s end.

On the season, Allen has totaled a team-high 10 quarterback hurries while ranking second in sacks with 6.0 (-53 yards). He has also added 6.5 tackles for a loss (-53 yards) as part of his 35 total tackles. Allen leads the defense with two touchdown scores, both fumble recoveries, and has two pass breakups to his name.
