Alabama women’s golfers Cheyenne Knight, Lauren Stephenson and Kristen Gillman opened play with solid rounds at the U.S. Women’s Amateur at Rolling Greens Golf Club in Springfield, Pa. on Monday.

Sophomore-to-be Lauren Stephenson is two-under par after an opening round 69 and is tied for 10th place, three shots off the lead. Knight, who was named the NCAA Freshman of the Year by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association last season, fired a one-under par 70 and sits in a tie for 18th place while incoming freshman Kristen Gillman shot a one-over par 72 and is tied for 36th. Gillman won the event as a 16-year-old in 2014.

The Crimson Tide’s Emma Talley became the first Alabama golfer to win the Women’s U.S. Amateur when she captured the title in 2013 at Charleston (S.C.) Country Club. Talley completed her senior season in May.

The top-64 players following Tuesday’s second stroke-play round advance to match play competition that will begin Wednesday and conclude Saturday with a 36-hole match play championship between the final two golfers.

Tuesday’s round begins at 7:15 a.m. (ET). Gillman will tee off at 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday, followed by Stephenson at 9:27 a.m. Knight will tee off at 2:42 p.m.
