Alabama landed a big commitment at a position of need on the eve of Signing Day. Four-star defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis picked the Crimson Tide over LSU and TCU.

Mathis was one of the top remaining targets for Nick Saban and his staff, and they went into the Tigers' backyard to get the commitment. Many recruiting experts expected the top 100 player to stay home for college, but Mathis will follow Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones from Monroe, Louisiana, to Tuscaloosa.

Mathis held the ceremony at the grave of his late teammate Tyrell Cameron, who died after breaking his neck making a tackle during a football game in 2015.

The commitment gives the Crimson Tide 25 total commitments for the class of 2017.
