Alabama Native Stewart Cink Leaving Golf To Care for Wife After Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Major champion Stewart Cink announced on Monday that he plans to take a break from golf to support his wife after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Cink, 42, released a statement on Twitter about his decision.
The 2009 British Open Champion grew up in Florence, Alabama, before playing his college golf at Georgia Tech. The six-time winner on the PGA Tour met his wife at a young age and the two got married as undergraduates in Atlanta.
The Cink family have given a lot back to their hometown of Florence, including a gift of nearly $200,000 to the University of North Alabama athletics program in 2012.
