Alabama softball continued its fall schedule Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium, winning both games in a doubleheader against Wallace State by scores of 10-2 and 10-5, respectively.

GAME ONE: ALABAMA 10, WALLACE STATE 2

Alabama wasted no time getting on the board in game one, scoring three runs in the first inning on a two-run double from sophomore Bailey Hemphill and an RBI single from freshman Kyra Lockhart that later drove in Hemphill. Lockhart drove in Hemphill again in the bottom of the third to tack on another run for the Tide.

Alabama hung a crooked number in the very next inning, plating six runs in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded, freshman Kendall Beth Sides was hit by a pitch and everyone moved up 60 feet. A fielding error on the next play allowed senior Demi Turner and freshman Kaylee Tow to come home and Lockhart drove in yet another run on an RBI double to score junior Merris Schroder. Junior Caroline Hardy then tallied the 10th and final run for the Crimson Tide with an RBI single, scoring Lockhart.

In the circle, junior Courtney Gettins threw her second complete game of the weekend, tossing 5.0 innings.

GAME TWO: ALABAMA 10, WALLACE STATE 5

In the bottom of the first inning, sophomore Elissa Brown reached base safely on a bunt single, stole second and then came home on an RBI single up the middle from freshman Maddie Morgan. Alabama added four more runs in the next inning on a grand slam from junior Reagan Dykes.

Morgan drove in Brown on yet another RBI single in the bottom of the fourth and Dykes added her fifth RBI of the game with a single to left, scoring Morgan. In the bottom of the sixth, Morgan drove in sophomore Claire Jenkins from second with an RBI single and Brown advanced to third on the play, later tagging up and coming home on a sacrifice fly from Dykes. Sides singled up the middle to score Morgan, which capped the game’s run production for the Tide.

Freshman Madison Preston threw 7.0 innings in the circle for the Tide, her second complete game of the weekend.

Alabama concludes its fall slate next weekend with a pair of doubleheaders. First, the Tide will face Shelton State on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. CT before facing Auburn-Montgomery on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1:30 p.m. CT.
