Alabama Women’s Basketball Signs Four

The Alabama women’s basketball team signed four to national letters of intent during the early signing period this week, including Courtney Hunter, Brooksie McGraw, Kara Rawls and Ashley Williams.

“This signing class is really going to help our program continue to grow,” said Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson. “They are all quality players, and we feel like we got a lot of areas covered from the standpoint of size, athletic ability and versatility. We are real excited about this class.”

Hunter, a 5-9 guard from Hoover, Ala., is ranked as the 35^th overall guard in her class by ESPN.com. As a member of the Lady Buccaneers basketball team, she has been to three straight 6A state championship games, winning the title in 2010 and 2012. Hunter averaged five points in addition to two rebounds per game last season.

McGraw, a 6-3 center from Gainesville, Fla., is ranked as the 28^th overall post in her class by ESPN.com. Last season, she averaged six points, six rebounds and two blocks per game and won the 3A state championship as part of the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave basketball team. McGraw is also a very active student off the court and was voted class president by her peers this year.

Rawls, a 6-0 forward from Hoover.Ala., comes in as the No. 20 wing in her class by ESPN.com. She was part of the Lady Buccaneers 2012 state championship team after moving from Selma,Ala. In 2011, Rawls was an honorable mention all-state selection as part of the Ellenwood Christian basketball team. As a junior, Rawls contributed four points per game and added four rebounds as well for Hoover.

Williams, a 6-0 forward from Covington, Ga., is the No. 51 forward in her class according to ESPN.com. As a junior, she averaged 16 points and 16 rebounds, surpassed the 1,000 rebound mark and is closing in on her 1,000^th point. Williams, who began playing basketball four years ago, picked up the sport quickly and was a large part of Alcovy High School’s run to the Class AAAA final four last season.

“One of the areas that really appealed to us with this class is its winning mentality,” added Hudson. “They have all been a part of programs that have either won state titles or been in the mix. Individually, Brooksie brings size and a lot of athletic ability inside for us.  Kara and Courtney bring a lot to the table as players and are very versatile. Ashley is another talented player that is going to give us some size on the court. Overall, we are really excited and cannot wait for them to join our program next year.”
