Alabama Women’s Basketball to Face Arkanas Pine Bluff Saturday

The Alabama women’s basketball team (2-0) will play its first of three consecutive home games on Saturday when the Crimson Tide welcomes Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-1) to Foster Auditorium. The game is slated to tip off at 5 p.m. CT and admission is free.

Alabama leads the series with the Golden Lions 1-0 after winning 90-56, in the first meeting on Dec. 4, 2010.

The Tide is averaging 81.5 points per game after scoring 80 points against Jacksonville State and 83 versus Houston. Alabama currently has four players scoring 10 points or more per game, led by junior Shafontaye Myers’ average of 19.0 points per game. She is followed by sophomore Daisha Simmons (13.0), junior Jasmine Robinson (11.0) and senior Meghan Perkins (10.5).

As a team, the Tide leads the Southeastern Conference in steals, recording 19.5 thefts per game as well as turnover margin, forcing 15 more than it commits. Individually, Myers ranks No. 1 in the league in steals (4.5) and three-point field goals made (4.0), while Simmons checks in at the top in free throw percentage (1.000).

Arkansas-Pine Bluff recorded its first win of the season last time out against Philander Smith College, 67-48. The Golden Lions shot 44.1 percent from the floor and registered 18 steals in the game. Sophomore Jenise Gentry finished as the team’s leading scorer with 16 points, while sophomore Aubre Mitchell added a team-high eight rebounds.
