Alabama’s Jonah Williams Named Outland Trophy National Player of the Month

Alabama offensive lineman Jonah Williams has been named the Outland Trophy National Player of the Month on offense for the month of September, the Football Writers Association of America announced Friday.

Williams, who has started all 34 games of his Crimson Tide career, has graded out at over 90 percent in every contest this season. He anchors an offensive line that is protecting for the nation’s leading scoring offense (54.2). Alabama also ranks No. 5 in total offense (553.2) and is averaging more than 200 yards a game on the ground (217.4). UA is No. 9 nationally in sacks allowed per game (0.80) and has surpassed the 500-yard mark in total offense in all five games this season, a streak that is the longest in school history.

The Folsom, Calif., native has 18 knockdown blocks in five games and has not allowed a sack or quarterback pressure in 2018. His efforts have earned him offensive player of the week honors from the Alabama coaches twice this season.

Miami (Fla.) defensive tackle Gerald Willis III was also recognized by the FWAA on Friday as the national player of the month on defense.
