Alabama’s Lee Hodges, Davis Riley Named First Team All-SEC
Alabama senior Lee Hodges and junior Davis Riley were named to the Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf First Team, the league office announced on Thursday. In addition, sophomore Alex Green was selected to the SEC Community Service Team, marking the second consecutive year he has earned that recognition.
Hodges and Riley become the first Alabama teammates voted to the league’s first team since 2014 when four Crimson Tide golfers earned the recognition. That year, the Tide went on to win the NCAA national championship for a second consecutive year.
“I am really proud that both Lee and Davis made first team,” Alabama head coach Jay Seawell said. “I am excited for them. They both are great leaders, have worked very hard and each has had a great year. The players in this conference are unbelievable so to be on that first team and among the top players in a conference that saw all 14 teams make regionals, that’s a really big deal.”
Hodges, who earns his first All-SEC accolade since joining the team prior to the 2016-17 season, has led the Crimson Tide all season and has played some of his best golf during the spring campaign. In the Tide’s six spring tournaments, the Ardmore, Tenn., native has claimed two medalist honors (Puerto Rico Classic and Linger Longer Invitational), owns four top-10 finishes and five top-15 results. Hodges, who was tabbed the SEC Men’s Golfer of the Week for the week of March 21, is currently ranked No. 12 in the nation and tops the squad in stroke average (70.63), average vs. par (-0.57) and rounds of par or better (20) this year.
Meanwhile, Riley has had an equally impressive season and enters the NCAA Stockton Regional ranked No. 20 in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native ranks just behind Hodges in both stroke average (70.90) and average vs. par (-0.30). Riley claimed medalist honors at the Olympia Fields/Illini Invitational last fall, on his way to earning SEC Golfer of the Week recognition on Sept. 17. He tops the Tide with four top-five finishes, while his six top-10 results are tied with Hodges for the team lead. Riley earns his third straight All-SEC honors after being voted as a second-team all-league performer in each of the past two seasons.
Green was named to the SEC Community Service team for a second consecutive season. A member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, Green led all Crimson Tide men's golfers in total hours served in the community. He has volunteered a number of hours with the Special Olympics, while also finding time to visit with and read to elementary and middle school children in the Tuscaloosa community. Also included in his community service projects were volunteering his time at the Halloween Extravaganza and working with the local Child Abuse Prevention Services.
The No. 7/8 Crimson Tide men’s golf team will return to action on May 14-16 when they compete at NCAA Stockton Regional in Stockton, Calif. Live scoring and tee times, which will be available next week, can be found on Golfstat.com.
