Residents of Tuscaloosa will be able to access the Alberta Bridge once again on Thursday, November 5.

The city of Tuscaloosa shared the news via Twitter.

There was some speculation that the bridge might open as early as October 23, but the city was waiting on the Alabama Department of Transportation to approve the bridge.

This portion of University Boulevard has been closed for nearly a year as crews have worked to tear down and rebuild the 75-year-old bridge. The project was originally scheduled to take eight months, but the project has last well beyond that. The delay has caused heavy congestion around the city and the University of Alabama during the fall semester.

The reopening comes just in time for the biggest home football weekend of the season. Thousands of visitors will be in town as Alabama hosts fourth-ranked LSU on Saturday night.
