As the 2017 Major League Baseball calendar reaches the final 25 games of the regular season, one former Alabama pitcher has an opportunity to really help his team down the stretch.

After notching a critical road win against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Jimmy Nelson picked up where he left off with last week with a season-high 11 strikeouts in seven shutout innings against the Washington Nationals. With the win, Nelson picked up his 11th win of the season and is just eight strikeouts shy of 200 strikeouts for the season.

Going into the first full week of September, the former Crimson Tide hurler will face some of his biggest starts to date as the Milwaukee Brewers are 3.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs for first place in the National League Central and only one-half game behind the Colorado Rockies for a possible wild card spot.

In addition to Nelson, check out how some of Alabama’s other alums fared around MLB last week.
