Expect wait times to get a little bit longer heading into Bryant-Denny Stadium this fall. On Monday, The University of Alabama announced that it would implement metal detectors at all gates beginning this season.

“Earlier today, our Board of Trustees voted to move forward with the implementation of metal detectors throughout Bryant-Denny Stadium,” said Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne. “It goes without saying that safety at our venues is of the utmost importance, and these security enhancements will help to ensure that our fans, student-athletes, coaches and personnel can enjoy their game-day experience in a safe environment.”

The decision is aimed to improve safety and security for games, but will no doubt cause some head aches until the workflow becomes familiar to fans and stadium staff.

“While this will require some additional time for entry into the stadium, understand that measures will be put in place to help the flow of traffic move as quickly as possible through the gates,” Byrne added. “We will also be using more metal detectors than recommended to ensure the smoothest possible entry for our fans at Bryant-Denny Stadium.”

What do you think about the decision? Are you glad the university will enact these changes?
