On September 1, toe will meet leather when Alabama faces off against Louisville in Orlando.

In the days and weeks leading up to the 2018 season opener, Martin Houston and DC from Golden Shores Productions examine the key players, position battles and dynamics that could affect the Crimson Tide during their weekly "Capstone Report" segment on The Blitz.

In this week's segment, Houston and DC look at two rules changes affecting college football and the various position battles on Alabama's roster.

One of the recent rules changes approved by the NCAA involves allowing players to participate in up to four games without burning a season of eligibility.

According to DC, this rule will provide enormous benefits to underclassmen players.

"Now, not only are you looking at players being able to play four games, but you have opportunities to really get freshman playing time that would have normally been on your redshirt list and would not get any playing time, so you'd burn them if you played them." DC said.

The Golden Shores Production analyst also noted other benefits of the new rule including allowing freshman to better adjust to the speed of the college game.

Later in the conversation, Houston and DC looked at the position battles at quarterback and offensive line and how the new redshirt rule could impact Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts later in the season.

The Blitz kicks off live and local coverage of Alabama sports every weekday from 6-7 AM on Tide 102.9/100.9 and the Tide 102.9 app.
