In what was a quiet off-season for Alabama football, one of its expected impact players for 2017 was arrested less than one week before the beginning of fall practice.

Coming into the 2017 season, Hand was a preseason First Team All-SEC selection and is expected to be one of the Crimson Tide’s most valuable players on the defensive side of the ball.

During Monday’s edition of Southern Fried Sports, Cecil Hurt of The Tuscaloosa News provided his analysis of Hand’s situation.

The veteran observer of the Crimson Tide examined a wide variety of angles to the case including the natural fan reaction by those inside and outside the Alabama fan base and the decision making process that Nick Saban will use in handing out punishment.

During his analysis of Saban’s role in Hand’s situation, Cecil Hurt noted the law’s clear interpretation regarding entering a vehicle while impaired and also noting the importance of gathering all of the facts pertaining to the Crimson Tide defensive lineman’s case.

“The law is clear. Don’t get in the car with your keys if you’re impaired, period! Don’t do it. It’s a mistake.”  Hurt said.  “What kind of mistake and what the consequences of that mistake are are why you gather information.”

He also offered his thoughts on how Georgia handles DUI cases involving athletes and dove into Alabama basketball’s upcoming trip to Canada.

Southern Fried Sports airs every week from 11-Noon on Tide 102.9/100.9 and the radioPup app.
