After a year away from Tuscaloosa, Alabama baseball claimed its first victory inside the newly renovated Sewell-Thomas Stadium on the night of the stadium’s Grand Reopening. With the win, Alabama improves to 1-0 overall, including a 5-2 mark in season openers under head coach Mitch Gaspard.

In the second pitch of his first collegiate at-bat, freshman Chandler Taylor kicked off the night’s scoring with a solo home run to right field. Taylor would go on to notch one more RBI in the bottom of the sixth and would finish the day perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBI and a pair of walks in four plate appearances.

Not to be outshined was the pitching performance by the Crimson Tide. Junior starter Geoffrey Bramblett tossed 5.1 innings of work, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out six. Bramblett would turn it over to the bullpen, as Jon Keller, Matt Foster and Thomas Burrows combined for 3.2 scoreless innings to earn Keller the win and notch Burrows his first save of the year.

The Crimson Tide and Terrapins will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. CT. Alabama will send sophomore right-hander Jake Walters to mound while Maryland will counter with a sophomore righty of its own, Taylor Bloom. Fans can catch all the action on SECN+.
