Auburn Struggles vs. Southern Miss

Like Alabama, Auburn wrapped up September with a non-conference home game against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

Similar to their win over Arkansas, the Tigers limped their way to a 24-13 victory over the Golden Eagles.

Southern Miss stayed within shouting distance for almost the entire game as Auburn never put the game away until Andres Carlson's 23-yard field goal with two minutes to go in the game.

Down 21-13 with less than six minutes to go, Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham coughed up the football on a sack with Southern Miss linebacker Paxton Schrimsher recovering at their own 49-yard line.

Two plays later, Auburn defensive back Christian Tutt intercepted Southern Miss quarterback Jack Abraham at the Auburn two-yard line and returned it 23 yards to eventually set up Carlson's final field goal.

For the game, Auburn's offense netted just 96 rushing yards while Stidham threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns. The Tigers were also penalized nine times for 78 yards.

The Auburn defense came through again with two interceptions and limited Southern Miss to 260 yards of total offense including 45 on the ground.

The Tigers play their first rue road game of the season Saturday at 6:30 PM against Mississippi State on ESPN2.
