April 27, 2011 is a date that will forever be remembered in Tuscaloosa and across Alabama.

The Alberta section of Tuscaloosa was among the hardest hit areas of the city that fateful day.

One member of the Alabama Crimson Tide family and pastor of College Hill Baptist Church Dr. Kelvin Croom shared his memories of how the tornado affected him on Inside the Locker Room.

College Hill Baptist Church was destroyed on April 27, 2011 with ground breaking for a new worship center occurring Monday, almost five years to the date of the tornado.

Dr. Croom explained why he and his congregation persevered in their ongoing task of rebuilding the church and his excitement in returning the church to Alberta.

“We couldn’t walk away. The church family stuck together, and we were committed to come back to Alberta. We’re blessed in that area with a lot of things happening. We call Alberta the gateway to UA. We’re excited about what’s going on with the school there and other business that are coming back and the ones that are due to come back. So, we’re excited about Alberta and glad to be back there.” Dr. Croom said.
