SCOOBA, Miss. (AP) — A college in Mississippi has selected its new baseball coach.

News outlets report East Mississippi Community College announced Tuesday the promotion of Brett Kimbrel to head baseball coach. He had been an assistant coach for the past two seasons.

Kimbrel replaces Chris Rose, who resigned earlier this month after eight seasons on the job for the Lions.

East Mississippi finished the 2018 season with a 13-29 record. The team last qualified for the playoffs in 2017 when it finished 25-20, including a series loss in the first round to Hinds Community College.

Before joining EMCC, Kimbrel spent 12 seasons as an assistant coach at Shelton State Community College in Alabama. The Florida native is a 30-year coaching veteran.

Kimbrel says he gives glory to God for the opportunity to become EMCC's coach.
