Former Alabama Golfer Robby Shelton Picks Up First Professional Win

It was quite a weekend for Alabama golf at every level. Justin Thomas broke set a US Open scoring record with a 9-under round on Saturday and logged a top-10 finish. His former teammate Trey Mullinax also finished in the top 10 at Erin Hills, which was his first major appearance. Then there was current Tide golfer Jonathan Hardee, who won the Southern Amateur Championship.

Meanwhile on the Mackenzie Tour - PGA Tour Canada, which is a 12-event summer tour in Canada where the top five players earn a spot on the Web.Com Tour, former Alabama standout Robby Shelton earned his first professional victory by holding off the field at the GolfBC Championship.

Shelton led all four rounds to claim the one-shot victory. With the win, Shelton moves to the top of the Mackenzie Tour money list after three events.

“It means a lot. Just to win anywhere is so exciting. Just to know that my game’s there and to finally get one done feels great,” Shelton said after the win.

Shelton, who turned pro in May of 2016, has also made six starts on the PGA Tour this season. His best finish is a T-16 at the Valero Texas Open in April.
