As 16 teams are preparing for the possibility of punching their ticket to the 2016 Final Four in Houston, Texas, the men in stripes are also preparing to officiate their biggest games of the season.

One of college basketball‘s most respected officials in recent memory John Clougherty stepped Inside the Locker Room to explain the state of officiating in college basketball.

Clougherty officiated 10 years in the ACC and another 20 years in the SEC and Big East before calling his last game in 2005. His resume also includes 12 trips to the Final Four.

The veteran college basketball official reviewed some of the rules changes affecting college basketball this season including the increased enforcement of hand checking and the elimination of the five-second closely guarded rule. Clougherty also stressed that there is still work to be done in cleaning up the physicality around the basket.
