Fred Biletnikoff Discusses Playing Alongside Ken Stabler in Oakland Inside The Game [Audio]

He is widely considered as one of the greatest wide receivers to ever play football. Fred Biletnikoff, former Oakland Raider receiver and both College and Pro Football Hall of Famer, joined Ryan Fowler in The Game to discuss what it was like to catch passes from and play with the late Ken Stabler.

The former Tide and Raider quarterback Kenny Stabler was just recently inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and one of his favorite targets in Oakland, Fred Biletnikoff, had nothing but great things to say about him, and also what it was that made Stabler not only a great quarterback, but a great teammate.

"He always had control of the game, control of the huddle... [He was] very intelligent about the personnel he had on the field. He put all of us in situations where we could succeed... That was the great thing about Kenny, he knew everybody in that huddle."

Of course, on the field, all players mess up: that's a fact. And even the great Biletnikoff dropped a couple passes or ran a wrong route from time to time. Many quarterbacks would jump down their receivers' throats for not catching a perfectly thrown ball or breaking off a route too early, but Stabler was different and Biletnikoff thought that that was his best quality.

"He would never even discuss it. All he would do is give you encouragement, 'Come on, we'll get it next time... Just get ready again, we're gonna throw it again if you're ready for it,' and that's how he approached everybody."
