The 2017 edition of SEC Media Days opened up Monday morning with a state of the conference address from commissioner Greg Sankey.

Now beginning his third year in charge of the Southeastern Conference, Sankey spoke for about 30 minutes in front of a room full of media members in Hoover. It was the annual update on how the conference is progressing with highlights from the past academic year.

There were plenty of topics on the agenda, including the possibility of a 14-week season that included two open dates. Sankey said the league is discussing the idea but don't want to extend players and teams even further.

"We're open to a 14-week season, but we want to be very careful about not moving the standard for football practice even earlier into the summer," Sankey said.

Sankey also shot down the possibility of realigning the divisions, which has been a topic of conversation this offseason.

"Has not been an agenda item in the meeting. It is a conversation in most large press conferences in which I appear, and that's the extent of the conversation."
