As Alabama fans wind down from an exhilarating finish to the SEC Championship Game and turn their attention to the Heisman Trophy presentation and the College Football Playoff, Nick Saban and the rest of the coaching fraternity are making their final pushes toward the 2019 signing class.

The early signing period for the 2019 class begins on December 19 and lasts through December 21 with the traditional signing period starting on February 6.

During his weekly visit with Martin Houston, BamaOnline.com recruiting reporter Hank South provided his update on the Crimson Tide's recruiting as the early signing period approaches.

At the beginning of the conversation, South mentioned how much buzz Alabama's come from behind win received among potential recruits.

"Anytime you win a big marquee game like the SEC Championship, that's obviously an eye opener for recruits, and there was a lot of buzz after that game, especially in the way it ended. We reached out to a lot of guys and did some interviews, and they were pumped." South said.

Across the country, Urban Meyer's departure from Ohio State could shake up the recruiting landscape. One recruit to look out for is Jordan Battle from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The safety from St. Thomas Acquinas High School committed to Ohio State earlier in the summer but according to BamaOnline.com's recruiting reporter, Alabama is still highly interested in Battle.

"He's a guy that Bama really started to push for early on this season. They invited him to their season opener against Louisville in Orlando. He came back for an official visit during the Mississippi State game. They certainly have been pushing for him." South said.

With Meyer's announcing his retirement from Ohio State, South relayed how Battle might rethink his prior commitment to the Buckeyes.

"He was asked specifically if Urban Meyer were to leave what would happen to his recruitment. This was prior to Urban Meyer announcing he was stepping down. He said he would definitely reconsider things as far as where he stands." South said.

Later in the recruiting discussion, South looked at the top athletes including those along the defensive line that are being targeted by Alabama.
