As the 2016 high school football season nears the halfway point, a number of teams are looking to separate from the pack or scratch their way into playoff contention.

Tuscaloosa County (2-2) vs. #2 Hoover (3-1)

After starting hot out of the gate, Tuscaloosa County has hit a road block in recent weeks. In addition to the Thompson loss, the Wildcats dropped a 24-14 contest at Huffman last Thursday. In the loss, Bo Evans scored two rushing touchdowns. With TCHS in need of a region win, perennial national power Hoover High School rolls in for a homecoming contest in Northport. The Bucs have one of the top defenses in the state allowing 10.8 points per game. Hoover dispatched Spain Park last week 26-8. In the win, Bucs cornerback Chase Brown intercepted two passes from Spain Park signal caller Hunter Howell. Hoover has won five straight games over TCHS and leads the overall series 12-3. Kickoff is at 7 PM with a 6:45 PM airtime on Tide 102.9 and the radioPup app.

McAdory (2-1) vs. #3 Hillcrest (4-0)

The Hillcrest Patriots put their undefeated record at stake in a huge road game at McAdory in suburban Birmingham. In their most recent win, Hillcrest senior signal caller Cole Frederick tossed a season-high five touchdown aerials to four different receivers in a 49-13 victory over Bessemer City. Alabama commit Brian Robinson also put forth a productive evening with 104 yards rushing and two scores. McAdory opened region play last week with a 47-13 win over Paul Bryant. In the win, senior running back Phillip Brown scored three touchdowns. Hillcrest has a 2-1 series advantage over McAdory. Kickoff is at 7 PM with airtime at 6:30 PM on 95.3 the Bear and the radioPup app.

West Blocton (3-1) vs. Northside (2-1)

The Northside Rams will attempt to shake off an emotional loss at home to Bibb County as they hit the road for another big region game against West Blocton. The Rams allowed a go-ahead score with a little over five minutes left in a 26-20 loss to Bibb County. West Blocton enters the game off their best performance of the season in a 40-14 stomping of Greensboro. In the game, the Tigers rushed for over 400 yards as a team. Trey Underwood and Kaleb Shadwick scored a pair of touchdowns each. West Blocton is 2-0 in region play while Northside comes in at 1-1 in the region. West Blocton leads the series 22-11-1 despite being shutout 21-0 last year at Northside.
