High School Football Recap: Week 3

In the first region games of the season across west Alabama, Tuscaloosa County fell just shy of a big region win while Hillcrest and Demopolis flexed their muscles Friday night.

Tuscaloosa County fell a touchdown shy of getting a key region win and remaining undefeated. Both defenses dominated throughout the game. TCHS managed one first down in the first half but trailed only 3-0 at halftime. Frederick Evans ran the opening kickoff of the second half 69 yards which set up an Ethan Walden 28-yard field goal to tie the game at 3-3. Thompson scored a third quarter touchdown and iced the game in the fourth quarter with a pair of interceptions.

The Hillcrest Patriots made quick work of the Northridge Jaguars in the first region game of the season for both teams. Hillcrest signal caller Cole Frederick connected on 7 of 13 pass attempts for 218 yards along with a rushing touchdown. Alabama commit Brian Robinson totaled 101 yards rushing on 9 carries with three touchdowns in a half of play.

Paul Bryant          33           Brookwood        14

Junior running back Gary Quarles gained 193 on 17 carries with three scores to lift Paul Bryant to their first victory of the season. Quarles opened the scoring with a 61-yard touchdown scamper in the first quarter. Brookwood was held scoreless until the final nine minutes of the contest when they added two late touchdowns.

The struggles continue for the Central Falcons as the Demopolis Tigers took control early and never looked back. Demopolis running back A.J. Jackson recorded four rushing touchdowns in the first half on runs of 7, 17, 4 and 2 yards. The Tigers added a safety to take a 30-0 halftime lead. Demopolis quarterback Logan McVay completed the scoring in the second half with scoring runs of 70 yards and 1 yard.
