Jay Jacobs announced Friday he will be stepping down as Athletic Director at Auburn University effective June 1, 2018, or sooner if a new director is found.  He has been AD at Auburn since 2005.

From Auburn247sports.com, Jacobs made the announcement Friday after months of rumors concerning his potential ouster as the athletics program was marred in controversy, a lawsuit and two scandals, including an FBI investigation into the men’s basketball program.

"I believe in Auburn and will fight for Auburn. But as I consider the future and what is best for Auburn, I have prayerfully decided the time has come for me to step aside. Sometimes a new direction and new leadership are helpful in moving beyond current problems."

Jacobs took over for David Housel, who spent nearly 35 years in the Auburn athletic department.
