Nick Saban Suspends Alphonse Taylor Indefinitely Following DUI

A day after offensive lineman Alphonse Taylor was arrested for a DUI, Alabama head coach Nick Saban confirmed that the senior will face immediate punishment.

In a statement released by the university on Monday, Saban said the following:

We are disappointed anytime a player makes a choice that leads to this kind of behavior. We are still in the process of gathering all of the details on the situation, but from a football standpoint, Alphonse Taylor has been indefinitely suspended from the team.

The arrest happened in the early morning hours of Sunday when Taylor hit a parked car. Saban visited ESPN on Tuesday and was asked about the arrest and disciplinary action that will be taken.

"I think every one of these circumstances and situations is a little bit different," Saban told Sportscenter. "But I think when you have a DUI, what makes it significantly different is that you have put other people in danger by the choice you made and the decision that you made. So that to me is a little more serious in terms of what we need to do."

The Alabama program handles its discipline internally, but Saban has said as recently as SEC Media Days last week that he takes corrective action based on what's best to make his player a better person. He repeated that sentiment about Taylor during his visit to Bristol.

"I would like to look at what we're doing with Alphonse Taylor not as a punishment, but as a treatment of what we need to do to help him be a better player, to be a better person, to make better choices and decisions in the future."

Taylor started all 15 games at right guard in 2015, but his status for the season opener against USC remains in question.
