NORTHPORT -- Tuscaloosa County's home opener didn't end in the way it would have liked.

The Wildcats dropped its fourth game of the season, first at home, 15-7, against Oak Mountain Friday night.

Oak Mountain defensive back Hall Morton's interception with 1:28 to go in the fourth quarter sealed the Eagles' first win of the season.

Oak Mountain struck first, driving 93 yards in 3:12 on a series capped off by senior dual-threat quarterback Warren Shader's 4-yard plunge into the end zone. Payton Youngblood's two-point conversion pass to Connor Wilson put the Eagles up 8-0 after the first quarter.

Two series later, on its fourth possession of the game, junior running back Daniel Salchert added to the lead with an 8-yard run.

But County High didn't go down lightly, responding with a score of its own, a 7-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Bo Evans to cut it to 15-7 with 1:29 to go in the half. Quarterback Sam Cooper helped set up the score one play earlier, when he found senior wideout Malik Smith for a 28-yard pickup on fourth-and-9 from the Eagles' 35.

Evans' score was his third touchdown this season, a team high.

Neither team came close to scoring in the second half, though the Wildcats had the better possession time and opportunities.

Morton's late interception was made on the Wildcats' 43, just two plays into what proved to be County High's final series of the game, which began with 1:45 to go on their own 18. Morton, a senior, also picked off a pass during the third quarter.

It was only the second all-time meeting between the schools in a series that began last season upon the formation of Class 7A. Oak Mountain beat Tuscaloosa County, 27-6, in Birmingham last season.

Tuscaloosa County had played seven straight games, including two postseason games, on the road, dating back to last season.

In the video above, County High play-by-play announcer Justin Baker and color commentator Greer Williams provide their postgame thoughts.

The Wildcats (0-4, 0-3 Class 7A, Region 3) return to action next Friday in a showdown against cross-river rival Hillcrest in Northport.
