Patrick Murphy Previews NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional

NCAA Tournament play begins this weekend as the field of 64 begins their trek toward college softball’s national championship.

One program that has been a consistent presence among the top programs in college softball has been Alabama.

Under Patrick Murphy, the Crimson Tide has been in the NCAA Tournament in every single season since he took over as head coach in 1999 and has led the program to Super Regional appearances in 13 consecutive seasons.

For much of the 2018 season, a regional hosting slot was in doubt as the Crimson Tide dropped four consecutive series in SEC play but won five of their last six games to secure a No. 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to the start of the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional, head coach Patrick Murphy appeared on The Gary Harris Show to provide his thoughts on the upcoming weekend.

Alabama’s head coach discussed various aspects of the regional weekend including his scouting report of the regional field, the health status of the team, Alexis Osorio’s recent issues with walking batters, the importance of controlling the strike zone offensively and defensively and the atmosphere that opponents experience playing at Rhoads Stadium.

Alabama softball opens regional play Friday night at 8:30 PM against Middle Tennessee.
