One scrimmage into spring and Alabama football has reportedly suffered its first major injury.

According to AL.com's Matt Zenitz, offensive lineman Richie Petitbon tore his ACL on Saturday. Zenitz also reports that the redshirt freshman has already undergone surgery.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban confirmed the injury on Tuesday morning.

“Richie Petitbon suffered a knee injury during Saturday’s scrimmage," Saban said through a school release. "He has undergone successful surgery with Dr. Lyle Cain in Birmingham and we anticipate a full recovery.”

The Washington D.C. native has been in competition for the starting guard position this spring. It's unclear how much time the former four-star prospect and top 100 player nationally will miss, but the typical recovery time for an ACL injury is six months.
