If nothing else, even newcomers to the state of Alabama know (or quickly learn) how seriously we take college football. Just how serious is that? Enough for some businesses to close their doors early so their employees can watch the game!

I received an email last week stating that the Tuscaloosa Tumbling Tides would be closing at 6:30 on Monday, January 11 to allow employees to watch Alabama take on Clemson in the 2016 College Football National Championship game.  This wouldn't be considered a phenomenon because it's not quite uncommon for businesses to close or to make decisions surrounding a football game. However, it did make me a bit curious as to how many businesses would be closing for the game.  So, I did what any self-respecting researcher would do and asked Facebook (yes, that was sarcasm).

Quite a number of friends indicated that the following businesses would be closing their doors at game time:

  • Tuscaloosa Tumbling Tides closing at 6:30
  • Mercedes and its suppliers will close 2nd and 3rd shifts
  • Westervelt
  • Inteva
  • University Medical Center's night clinic
  • BLG Logistics

I'm sure there are more.  So, if your place of business will be closed Monday because of the game, please indicate it in the comments.
