The Alabama Crimson Tide and Washington Huskies battled through the night with Alabama prevailing 2-1 in eight innings in front of a capacity Rhoads Stadium audience.

The Huskies opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Dani Braun reached base with a one out single. Jennie McNeil reached base with an infield single followed by a throwing error from Alabama shortstop Sydney Booker allowing Braun to cross the plate to give Washington a 1-0 lead.

The Crimson Tide evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning as Demi Turner drove in pinch runner Rachel Bobo on a bases loaded walk.

Alabama loaded the bases to begin the bottom of the eighth inning. With no outs, Turner hit a soft single to the pitcher as she threw to first instead of attempting a force play at the plate.

Missed opportunities offensively held both teams back as Washington stranded 13 runners on base while Alabama left eight on base. The Huskies left a runner in scoring position in five of their eight at bats while Alabama left runners in scoring position in six of their first seven at bats going into extra innings.

Alexis Osorio gutted out a complete game victory as she allowed an unearned run on four hits with 8 walks compared to 13 strikeouts.

Demi Turner highlighted the Crimson Tide offense as she recorded both of Alabama’s RBIs in the game.

For Washington, Madi Schreyer started the first three innings from the circle as she surrendered one run on three hits with two walks and no strikeouts. Taran Alvelo pitched four innings of relief allowing one run on five hits with four walks and no strikeouts.

Alabama looks to punch their ticket to Oklahoma City with first pitch later today at 4:30 PM on ESPN. If Washington wins game two, they would play a series deciding game three at 7:30 PM on ESPN2.
