Staff Predictions for Alabama/Ole Miss

The Alabama Crimson Tide will begin SEC play on the road as they travel to Oxford to face the Ole Miss Rebels.

In the first two games of the season, the Crimson Tide's defense has only allowed 21 points and the Rebels scored 47 points against Texas Tech and 76 points against Southern Illinois. The Rebels will be led by quarterback Jordan Ta'amu and group of talented wide receivers.

Here is who our Tide 102.9 staff has coming out with their first SEC victory down in Oxford.

Alabama faces the only team that has beaten Saban in back to back seasons.  Can they make it 3 of 5? This is there bowl game and you can expect them to come out with high emotion and energy. This will make it interesting early, but the emotion weans as the Tides talent take over.  Tua breaks 300 Yards,  the defense bows it’s back and stymy.

The defections with Ole Miss leave a huge talent gap between the two schools. Look for the defense to get at least 3 interceptions. This one won’t be close.

I look for Bama to have they’re way both running and passing the football. The secondary will do a great job due to a great pass rush. This one will be over at halftime and Alabama will empty the bench in the 4th quarter.

Alabama’s defense will be severely tested by the explosive and high scoring Ole Miss offense in the SEC opener for both teams. The problem for the Rebels is that they have to play defense too. Tua and company will roll up big points.

If there's a surprise this week it's that the total for this game in Las Vegas isn't in the 70s. It nearly got there a year ago -- and that was with UA doing almost all of the scoring. While there are still some questions for Alabama to answer on defense, the next wave of backend defenders have done a good job on third downs and in the red zone to date. As for the UA offense, after what we saw from the Rebels' D in a 76-41 win over FCS opponent Southern Illinois last Saturday, offensive coordinator Mike Locksley will have the luxury of playing things fairly close to the vest on the way to another 50-plus point performance.

Alabama may score on every drive, going up against a defense that is one of the worst in college football.  Ole Miss will also have some success against the Tide defense, but it will not be enough.

Many people were pointing to this game being a trouble spot for Alabama before the season started and Ole Miss hasn’t done anything to change that belief. The Rebels have showcased an elite arsenal at wide receiver and an offense that seems to score at will. But here’s the thing, the Crimson Tide can score in every way and might just do so on Saturday. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the offense, defense and special teams all get on the board in Oxford and that’s what makes this team so difficult to beat. Not only does Nick Saban appear to have his best offense ever in Tuscaloosa, but the weapons surrounding Tua Tagovailoa are just as dangerous. The Rebels might make a few big plays but I’d be very surprised if they could keep up with the Tide for long.

Both teams have lit up the scoreboard against non-conference opponents. For Ole Miss, it's an opportunity to show the SEC that Matt Luke is on his way to building the Rebels back to a competitive program in the SEC but the Crimson Tide has too many athletes and will show that Ole Miss still has a long way to go in the rebuilding process.

Although Ole Miss has an explosive offense led by Jordan Ta'mau and a group of talented wide out, their defense will be the biggest downfall of the season. Tua Tagovailoa, the Crimson Tide's run game, and the wide receivers are just too much for this Rebels defense to handle. I think the Rebels will keep it close in the first half, but Alabama's defense makes adjustment at halftime and come out swing in the third and fourth quarter and the Crimson Tide puts the nail in the coffin on offense.
