Alabama’s Lauren Stephenson posted a school record 54-hole score to share individual medalist honors and The Crimson Tide turned in another double-digit under-par round on Sunday to finish second at the Mason Rudolph Championship at the par-72, 6,335-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course.

Stephenson (68-68-64/200) birdied her last five holes on Sunday to cap off an 8-under par 64 round and tie with Arkansas’ Maria Fassi for individual medalist honors at 16-under par. Stephenson’s final score and score vs. par are school records, surpassing the 14-under par 202 teammate Cheyenne Knight shot to win medalist honors at this tournament a year ago. Stephenson’s final round score is the second-lowest ever shot by a UA women’s golfer. Current senior Lakareber Abe shot a 63 in the final round of last year’s Mason Rudolph.

“Lauren had a great summer and played great in qualifying leading up to this weekend,” Alabama head coach Mic Potter said following the tournament. “I expected her to play well but to birdie the last five holes knowing what was at stake was quite impressive.”

Arkansas (273-277-273/823) took home the team championship with a tournament record 41-under par performance, surpassing the previous record of 39-under par set by Alabama in 2016. The Crimson Tide (284-272-273/829) finished second at 35-under par. Arizona State (277-276-286/839) finished third at 25-under par, followed by the Tide (284-272/556). Host Vanderbilt (275-283-284/842) finished fourth at 22-under par. Northwestern (285-280-282/847) finished fifth at 17-under par.

“We played very well the last two days,” Potter added. “We probably got too far behind the first day but we finished only four shots off the school record so you can’t be disappointed with that. We played great golf the last two days. I’m proud of them all.”

Alabama’s final total, along with the score vs. par are the second-lowest in both categories in program history, behind only the 39-under par 825 the Tide shot in the to win the 2016 Mason Rudolph Championship.

The final round 15-under par 273 is the third-lowest round and round vs. par in school history. Tide’s 16-under par 272 on Saturday stands as the second-best round in both categories by a UA women’s golf team. Alabama shot a team-record 25-under par 263 in the final round of last year’s Mason Rudolph Championship.

Stephenson again led the Tide on Sunday, turning in an 8-under par round to tie with Arkansas’ Maria Fassi for individual medalist honors at 16-under par. Junior Cheyenne Knight (74-68-68/210), who carded a second consecutive 4-under par round on Sunday tied for eighth along with sophomore Kristen Gillman (70-69-69/139) was 3-under par for the second day in a row and senior Lakareber Abe (72-67-71/210) who shot a final-round 1-under par. Freshman Angelica Moresco (77-70-70/217) fired a second consecutive 2-under par round on Sunday to tie for 37th at 1-over par in her collegiate debut.

Alabama finished at or below par in 13 of 15 individual rounds on the weekend with seven of 15 rounds in the 60s.

Alabama will be in action next weekend, Sept. 23-25, at the University of Oklahoma’s Schooner Fall Classic.
