Running Back Scottie Phillips

During the Hugh Freeze era of Ole Miss football, the passing game and quarterbacks such as Bo Wallace and Chad Kelly helped to shape the identity of the offense.

Earlier this week, Nick Saban referenced how their running game has helped Ole Miss to their 2-0 start.

Jones County Community College running back Scottie Phillips has exploded onto the scene early as a Rebel. The junior running back leads the SEC and is in the top five nationally averaging 155.5 rushing yards per game. Phillips rushed for 204 yards in the season opener against Texas Tech.

#38 for 2018

Each season, the Ole Miss football program honors a standout defensive player by awarding him the No. 38 jersey number.

No. 38 was the number that the late Chucky Mullins wore when he was paralyzed after making a tackle on Vanderbilt's Brad Gaines during a 1989 contest against the Commodores.

This season, senior free safety C.J. Moore will don the No. 38 jersey.
