He may have been raised in the state of Louisiana, but he dominated as a member of the Crimson Tide under legendary head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. Tommy Wilcox, whose father played football at Tulane University in New Orleans, was born and brought up in Louisiana and was no stranger to how exciting, crazy and meaningful the LSU vs Alabama rivalry is from a young age.

Gary Harris, host of the Gary Harris Show got the opportunity to have Tommy on and hear about the importance of the rivalry from Wilcox’ unique perspective.

Tommy was heavily recruited by the best schools in the country such as Notre Dame and Alabama, along with the school that represented his home state, LSU.

Although getting followed and offered by Louisiana State Tommy knew he was never going to be a Tiger.

“We were brought up to hate LSU, so I never ever ever considered it!”

He decided Tuscaloosa would be his home for the next four years, playing in four different LSU v. Bama games, receiving All-American honors twice at the DB position and was a part of Coach Bryant’s final senior class.

Tommy and Gary take a step back in time to discuss some of the greatest coaches this rivalry has seen, along with some of the greatest games, moments and personal memories in an interview that will get you geared up for this year’s  Alabama vs LSU showdown.
