Tuscaloosa’s Zachary Smith Qualifies for Olympic Trials
Today we salute Tuscaloosa's Zachary Smith, a 16-year-old junior at Holy Spirit High School. Smith competed with more than 1,700 swimmers and qualified for the Olympic Trials in Nebraska. Our Tuscaloosa talented swimmer will compete in the same pool of water as the 18-time gold-medal winner Michael Phelps on Friday.
Smith told the Tuscaloosa News, "When you touch and finish, you look up and see the times and everything is going through your head," Smith said. "You say, ‘Did I make it?' Then it's that big relief you have finding out you did it." How incredible it is to have a young man from Tuscaloosa competing in swimming at it's highest level at age 16!
GO Zachary Smith!!! GO Holy Spirit High School!!! GO Team USA!!!
