Beginning September 8, Tuscaloosa will have a place to go every morning to talk about Alabama sports. Former Crimson Tide basketball coach Wimp Sanderson, along with his son and former SEC and ACC assistant basketball coach Barry Sanderson, will debut their new daily radio show, Inside the Locker Room, on Tide 99.1.

The show, which will provide Alabama fans with the live and local discussion it desires, will air from 7-9 AM in Tuscaloosa but can be heard online or via the radioPup app for mobile devices.

There are very few people that know as much about The University of Alabama basketball program as Wimp. He spent 32 years on the coaching staff, which included 12 years as head coach during one of the school's greatest eras. From 1980-1992, Wimp's teams became a staple of the postseason. He guided Alabama to 10 NCAA tournament appearances and six 'Sweet 16' births. His teams also reached the SEC tournament finals nine of his 12 seasons as head coach, winning five of those SEC tournament championships. Along the way, he earned National Coach of the Year in 1987 and SEC Coach of the Year three times (1987, 1989, 1990).

"Our knowledge gathered over 55 years of coaching in both the SEC and ACC will allow us to tell the listener exactly what is happening in the closed locker room or what coaches are really thinking," Wimp said. "When our callers call the show they can expect to get what I really believe regarding the topic, not some canned answer a coach or player may give in a press conference.  We look forward to bringing some high profile guests throughout the week and discussing a variety of topics from sports, politics, local events and all things Tuscaloosa."

Barry's college basketball coaching career spans more than 20 years if you include his start as a student assistant under his father at Alabama. After graduating from the Capstone in 1990, he went on to make assistant coaching stops at Arkansas-Little Rock, East Carolina, Lipscomb, Wake Forest, and South Carolina. His time with the Gamecocks included an NCAA tournament appearance in 2004 and back-to-back NIT Championships in 2005 and 2006.

Since his retirement from coaching in 2008, Barry has continued working in basketball by running the Sanderson Basketball Academy and acting as director for two successful high school tournaments in Alabama.

"We are very excited to start a morning show in a place that is so special to both of us," Barry said. "We both are very passionate about coaches, athletes and sports so we look forward to bringing an entertaining two hours to this great community and across the country."

Even though the duo has such an extensive background in college basketball, the show will go well beyond the hardwood.

"Listeners can expect the show to cover the biggest topics, day in and day out," Barry said. "We understand the importance of college football in Tuscaloosa and you can expect to hear national football guests throughout the season."

Inside the Locker Room with Wimp and Barry will be the beginning of a 12-hour local programming lineup on Tide 99.1 that is aimed to serve a passionate Crimson Tide fanbase with meaningful and relevant conversation throughout the week.
