Three one-time athletes at Faulkner University in Montgomery have been indicted on murder charges in the death of another school athlete.

Court documents show 20-year-old Tabias Russell of Alexander City; 20-year-old Marshall Wall of Atmore; and 21-year-old Ronnie Williams of Loxley are charged in the death of 19-year-old Faulkner football player Ryan Brooks of Chelsea.

Police say Brooks was fatally shot by a resident while attempting a home invasion with the other three in December 2014. Authorities have said the four were trying to steal marijuana.

Russell and Williams played football at the Christian school in Montgomery, and Wall played soccer.

Court records show all three are set to enter pleas during a hearing on Sept. 28. Attorneys for the men didn't immediately return messages seeking comment.
