Aaron Suttles Gives His Thoughts on Alabama QB Situation Following First Scrimmage [Audio]
Alabama's first scrimmage of the fall is in the books, and although the Crimson Tide didn't release any stats from the game, there's still plenty of talk surrounding the performances of the quarterbacks on the roster.
Nick Saban and Alabama are currently looking for a starting quarterback, and the sooner they find one, the better for their chances of repeating as national champions. Sure, the past two seasons, Alabama has relied on the arms of two first-year starters under center, but this situation is much different than in the past, because it seems as though the leaders in the clubhouse to earn the starting job are a redshirt freshman and a true freshman in Blake Barnett and Jalen Hurts, respectively.
Junior Cooper Bateman was the early favorite to win the job, but he has yet to separate himself from the rest of the crowd, as Saban has mentioned on numerous occasions since spring practice.
So who will win the job? Does it matter? In the past, it hasn't mattered, but it's different this season, especially in the always brutal SEC West: an SEC West that Dave Bartoo of CFBMatrix.com says that five of the seven teams in the division have metrics equal or above the previous 16 (sixteen!!!) national champions.
