Coming off a weekend series win over Mississippi State, Alabama scored a season-high 17 runs in a 17-1 victory in five innings over UAB.

It was a thorough domination from the start as the Crimson Tide scored in all four of their at bats including five run innings in the first, second and third inning. Out of the nine starters in the order, eight recorded at least one hit including multi-hit efforts from KB Sides, Bailey Hemphill and Claire Jenkins.

Bailey Hemphill stole the show from the plate going 3-3 with two round trippers and five RBIs. Claire Jenkins also added a home run, a double and three RBIs.

Alabama got rock solid pitching from Krystal Goodman and Madison Preston as Goodman worked three shutout innings while Preston allowed just one run over the final two innings of the game. Each pitcher recorded a strikeout and did not walk a batter.

Status of Montana Fouts

Less than an hour before Friday's game against Mississippi State, Alabama softball announced that star freshman pitcher Montana Fouts was out indefinitely with what was termed a "minor injury".

Prior to Wednesday's contest against UAB, head coach Patrick Murphy provided an update as to when she could return to the circle on Southern Fried Sports with Travis Reier.

"It's kind of a day-by-day thing, basically an overuse thing. I'm hoping that she'll be ready for Georgia, the Georgia weekend. We're going to take our time with it." Murphy said. "I'm doubting she plays this weekend."

For the first time since 2016, Alabama heads to Columbia to face South Carolina.

The Crimson Tide leads the all-time 41-18 including a 19-9 lead in games played in Columbia, South Carolina.

Just as Alabama dispatched UAB, South Carolina got a complete game, three-hit shutout from sophomore Kelsey Oh in a 7-0 blanking of Charlotte Wednesday night.

Coming into the weekend, the Gamecocks have a 26-10 record but are just 3-8 in SEC play and have not won a conference series to date. However, they have established a solid home field advantage with a 14-4 record at home.

Offensively, South Carolina doesn't have a slugger like Alabama's Bailey Hemphill, Auburn's Kendall Veach or Georgia's Alyssa DiCarlo, but they have gotten a fairly even distribution of production up and down the lineup. Six players have at least 20 RBIs with junior Cayla Drotar leading the team with 32 RBIs.

For the Gamecocks to win the series, they'll also need a great weekends from junior Mackenzie Boesel and senior Kennedy Clark. The two sluggers are among the SEC leaders in doubles with Clark tied for second in the conference with 13 doubles while Boesel is fourth in the SEC with 12 doubles.
